Excellent concert! Quite possibly one of the best first concerts ever. The Band’s Mississippi River Concert was as well received as it was well performed. The afternoon storms that rolled through the area left a blue sky opening of an hour and a half, into which the Holton-Elkhorn Band served up a nice portion of riversongs, Cajun tunes, Dixieland and marches. The concertgoers, as enjoyable, loyal and appreciative as they are, were out with benches, lawnchairs, umbrellas and enough smiles to go around. As the Band was into it’s last tune, the lightning could be seen only a few miles away, behind the bandshell. Music, fun and art had been created, appreciated and enjoyed, and everything packed and sealed up, just before the next round of rain arrived. It couldn’t have been planned better.
Next week: a taste of the Solemn, with Alleluias, Jesu Joy of Man’s Desiring, Just A Closer Walk With Thee, Princeton Variations and a couple marches. Oh, and was Jesus Christ Superstar mentioned? Don’t miss.
